But why should you plan a trip to Egmond?
In Egmond, there is something to do and experience all year round!
A short distance from the villa, you will quickly find a path on foot or by bike to the famous Egmond Dunes, home to Scottish Highland cattle, wild horses, a variety of birds, romantic lakes in the middle of the dunes, and unique flora, and above all, endless car-free walking and cycling paths. Heading north, you can easily reach Bergen aan Zee and Schoorl, home to the largest dune area in the Netherlands, or the picturesque artists' village of Bergen-Binnen; heading south, you can reach Egmond-Binnen, with its large old Benedictine abbey, and Castricum. At the PWN Visitor Centre, you can learn all about the flora and fauna around Egmond and get interesting tips on discovery tours and walks. Here you will find peace and quiet in so many places, away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life! Or simply enjoy the wonderful family beach in Egmond aan Zee for a long beach walk or quiet sunbathing.
But Egmond aan Zee also offers a beautiful, charming village with great restaurants and an impressive J.C.J. Speijck lighthouse, and last but not least, many special sports, musical, and cultural events and much more throughout the year.
And last but not least, the beautiful, historic cheese city of Alkmaar is easily accessible for a day trip (also by bike). From April through September, every Friday from 10:00 AM, you can watch how cheese carriers have been carrying their heavy cheese rolls on wooden stretchers to the Waaggebouw for centuries, or you can enjoy a leisurely stroll through the charming shopping streets in the old city center. Or perhaps you will rent a boat for a relaxing cruise, discovering impressive Alkmaar from a completely different perspective. And last but not least, we recommend a visit to the famous Stedelijk Museum Alkmaar, featuring major artworks from various eras ranging from the Golden Age to modern Dutch art from the Bergen School, and special exhibitions that change annually.
In short, it is well worth coming to Egmond (time and again).

Map & surroundings
Egmond aan den Hoef
Egmond aan den Hoef, like Egmond aan Zee and Egmond-Binnen, is a village in the municipality of Bergen in North Holland and counts just under four thousand residents. It borders the dunes and the Egmondermeer polder, only two kilometres from the beach. The dunes here are lighter and more open, with calcium-rich sand that nurtures different vegetation and numerous pools where toads and salamanders thrive. The area’s dune “sea village” landscape is renowned, and in spring the bulb fields burst into colour.
The surroundings are ideal for walking, cycling, beach days, and relaxed holidays. Highlights include the remains of Slot op den Hoef with its chapel, the bronze statue of Lamoral of Egmont, and the 1923 Catholic church Margarita Maria Alacoque—well worth a visit.
