But why plan a trip to Egmond?
In Egmond there is something to do and experience all year round!
A short walk or bike ride from the villa brings you to the famous Egmond dunes with Scottish Highlanders, wild horses, a variety of birds, romantic dune ponds, unique flora, and above all endless car-free walking and cycling paths. Head north to Bergen aan Zee and Schoorl with the largest dune area in the Netherlands, or to the picturesque artists' village of Bergen-Binnen, and south to Egmond-Binnen with its grand Benedictine abbey and on to Castricum. At the PWN Visitor Centre you can learn all about local flora and fauna and get useful tips for excursions and walks. Everywhere you find peace and quiet, away from the bustle of daily life.
Or simply enjoy the fabulous family beach in Egmond aan Zee for a long walk or peaceful sunbathing.
Egmond aan Zee also offers a charming village with great restaurants and the impressive J.C.J. Speijck lighthouse, and last but not least many special sporting, musical, and cultural
events and much more throughout the year.
And last but not least, the beautiful historic cheese city of Alkmaar is easy to reach for a day trip (also by bike). From April through September you can watch the traditional cheese carriers every Friday from 10:00 as they carry heavy cheese rounds on wooden stretchers to the Waag building, or simply wander the charming shopping streets in the old town. You might also rent a boat for a relaxed canal cruise to see Alkmaar from a different perspective. We also recommend visiting the famous Stedelijk Museum Alkmaar, with major artworks from various eras, from the Golden Age to modern Dutch art from the Bergen School, plus special exhibitions that change annually.
In short, it is worth coming back to Egmond time and again.

Map & surroundings
Egmond aan den Hoef
Egmond aan den Hoef, like Egmond aan Zee and Egmond-Binnen, is a village in the municipality of Bergen in North Holland and counts just under four thousand residents. It borders the dunes and the Egmondermeer polder, only two kilometres from the beach. The dunes here are lighter and more open, with calcium-rich sand that nurtures different vegetation and numerous pools where toads and salamanders thrive. The area’s dune “sea village” landscape is renowned, and in spring the bulb fields burst into colour.
The surroundings are ideal for walking, cycling, beach days, and relaxed holidays. Highlights include the remains of Slot op den Hoef with its chapel, the bronze statue of Lamoral of Egmont, and the 1923 Catholic church Margarita Maria Alacoque—well worth a visit.
