But why would you plan a trip to Egmond?

In Egmond you can do and experience something all year round!
A short distance from the villa you will quickly find a path walking or cycling to the famous Egmond dunes with Scottish Highlanders, wild horses, a variety of birds, romantic lakes in the middle of the dunes and a unique flora and especially, with endless, car-free walking and cycling paths. In a northern direction you can easily reach Bergen aan Zee and Schoorl with the largest dune area in the Netherlands or the picturesque artist village of Bergen-Binnen and in a southern direction to Egmond-Binnen with a large old Benedictine abbey and to Castricum. At the PWN Visitor Center you can learn everything about the flora and fauna around Egmond and interesting tips about expeditions and walks. Here you will find peace and quiet in so many places, away from the hustle and bustle of daily life!
Or just enjoy the great family beach in Egmond aan Zee for a long beach walk or quiet sunbathing.

But Egmond aan Zee also offers a beautiful, cozy and friendly village with great restaurants and an impressive lighthouse J.C.J. Speijck and not least many special sports, musical and cultural
events and much more throughout the year.
And last but not least, the beautiful, historic cheese city of Alkmaar can be quickly reached for a day trip (also by bike). From April to September you can see every Friday from 10:00 am how cheese carriers have been carrying their heavy cheese wheels on wooden stretchers to the Weigh House building for centuries, or you can leisurely stroll through the cozy shopping streets in the old city center. Or perhaps you rent a boat for a relaxing cruise, where you discover the impressive Alkmaar from a completely different perspective. And last but not least we recommend a visit to the famous Stedelijk Museum Alkmaar with great works of art from different eras from the Golden Age to modern Dutch art from the Bergen School and special exhibitions that change annually.

In short, it is worth coming to Egmond (time and time again).

Map & surroundings

Egmond aan den Hoef

Egmond aan den Hoef, like Egmond aan Zee and Egmond-Binnen, is a village in the municipality of Bergen in North Holland and counts just under four thousand residents. It borders the dunes and the Egmondermeer polder, only two kilometres from the beach. The dunes here are lighter and more open, with calcium-rich sand that nurtures different vegetation and numerous pools where toads and salamanders thrive. The area’s dune “sea village” landscape is renowned, and in spring the bulb fields burst into colour.

The surroundings are ideal for walking, cycling, beach days, and relaxed holidays. Highlights include the remains of Slot op den Hoef with its chapel, the bronze statue of Lamoral of Egmont, and the 1923 Catholic church Margarita Maria Alacoque—well worth a visit.
